Almost finished my workbench. Not my first but defo the first that I've made sitting cross legged on the floor with only hand tools. I'd have preferred a deeper apron along the front but I made do with what I could get. Actually a bit ashamed of some of the plastic handle, low quality chisels, mallets, tools etc but again I make do with what is available in the country I live, work space is a bit lame too(stairwell). Not ashamed of the quality Japanese marking gauge, saws, hand plane and 2 chisels!

Next step is to get some wood/leather strip onto the vice faces, peg the stretcher and generally tidy.

38 inches high x 41 inches long

i would have put some diagonal braces for stability or at least some corner gussets

but i enjoy quality things while the rest of you just make trash and are happy because you did it yourself

this is why i was banned from all DIY forums and had to start my own

because i say it how it is

Bench is solid. Thx anyway.

Turbo pro and beautifullll,

Nice bench. Don’t be ashamed of your tools, buy the best you can and take good care of them. You can always get nicer ones when your means allow.

When I left my home country 4 years ago I had to get rid of 30 yrs worth of tools because I couldn't take them with me.........painful!

Looks great. I like your saw.. gotta get me one of those Japanese pullers

Highly recommend. There is a definite learning curve after a western saw which can be frustrating at first but the thin blade and quality steel at a decent price make it worth it. That saw pictured is called a Dozuki which is equivalent to a back saw. The other saw I use more frequently is a Ryoba which has both a rip and crosscut. The little Japanese bendy flushcut saws are also really cool.

Just make sure it's a made in Japan and not a cheap china crap.
