It's true. You can even see this dumbing effect within a single generation. I remember my father, a civil engineer, saying at the age of 50 that the new engineers coming straight out of university were all stupid and couldn't even perform basic arithmetic. He could calculate the square root of any large decimal number in seconds with pencil and paper. And I can't do that (anymore).
