Linux Mint Debian Edition is worth to have a look at, too
LMDE is rough around the edges sometimes. At least, it's not as polished as the regular release.
I installed #LMDE on many client's and family's and friends' PCs, never got a complaint.
For newbies and non techies imho it's the best.
