I use a Zinc Oxide clean sunscreen on my face/neck/back of hands if I'm going to be out there more than 3 hours (I teach tennis in the sun many hours/day/week).
I'll also wear SPF 50 long sleeves with a broad brim hat.
Also do not wear sunglasses - the eyes have receptors that sense the UV Rays and tell the body to tan vs burn. Skin also senses it, and sunscreen blocks UV, so you burn when the sunscreen wears off...vs tan (and synthesize vitamin D).
A book called Embrace the Sun discusses this topic and cites a lot of research. The highest incidence of cancers tend to be in the areas of high sunscreen use...or people who get a lot of blue light indoors and no "unprotected sun exposure" to build up their Vitamin D stores...an absolute necessity to better fight off cancers (along with not eating processed foods, seed oils, etc).
