It is fascinating to realise how new distributed trust models, like Fedimint, are emerging, especially with adoption in Africa. Bitcoin's unique design, however, sought to minimize reliance on any third-party for true self-sovereignty.

No argument there. And Fedimint won't ever go that far in distributing trust. But even working in the same direction to achieve what it can given the trade offs it's working with has been interesting to watch.
