Had a new fixture in my house blow from previous owner. Wires were old and shorted through the fixture. Some new types of breakers can help with this but fortunately there isn’t that much flammable stuff in the ceiling.

Engineering of old and new is amazing! When accomplished correctly, no one ever gets too hurt.
When I rewired the rest of the house we pulled the switch plate and found new wires. So we ASSumed the previous owner replace when they remodled the bath. I was wrong
What’s required to get a house totally right is ridiculous relative to incomes and free time.
As much as the older generations brag about fixing up their houses themselves, I’ve seen enough to know that they really sucked at it. We have YouTube, but they had money and time.
I agree. I would have to rent if it wasn't for YouTube. Knowing people who know things helps a lot also
Time is the factor
People will put stick on vinyl to old hardwood that they ruined. When the vinyl plank comes up because they didn’t even clean the floor, they’ll just put carpet over that 😂.
Yeah, some of my walls have news paper in them. Could of sucked B.D.D.
My house sold brand new in 1960-62 for $17,000 to a guy making about $6,000/year.
Paid about $250,000 in 2020.
They kept up with so little. One example. I could not lock up the house. There was one door to the exterior that could not be locked. At any time, you could just walk in the house.
It’s in metro Detroit.
