I logged into an old instagram account I haven’t used in four years.

Truly remarkable how few relationships I actually cared about.

Of the 1300 people on the account I maybe give a fuck about 17 or so people.

Everyone else means nothing to me, I wonder if they ever did.

5 people are likely the most any of us can closely care for.

you just reminded me to nuke my acct… always kept it just for a few old friends but it’s not worth it. the best thing abt it for me was sports clips and short vids but you can watch those on youtube and not the most productive thing anyway

I recently deleted every single social media and kept my nostr account, holy shit life is so stress free without the algorithms

They didn't. Quality over quantity.

Keep that inner circle tight.

In Dunbar’s research, he mentioned that the 150 people are made up of:

5 intimate friends

15 good friends (including the 5 intimate friends)

50 friends (including the 5 intimate friends and 15 good friends)

150 acquaintances (all-encompassing)

Of these, he says that we spend 60% of our time with our core groups of 50 friends, and 40% with the remaining 90 people. The number can be said to derive from our brain’s ability to maintain memories of 150 people, as well as the time necessary to devote to the group in order to keep relationships going.
