finished Shōgun by James Clavell

top 3 historical fiction books I‘ve read for sure. If you like maximalist fiction and deep character work, or are interested in the history of samurai in feudal Japan and what happened when europeans started turning up in boats, definitely pick it up.

To me Tai Pan was the best. Gai-Jin got a bit of a remake feel, but worth the read also.

Noble house is also excellent. I lived in Singapore for years, & travelled to HK etc a lot, somehow these books really make it come alive
