The Internet has centralized pretty heavily at multiple points in the stack.

Outages with edge providers (Google/Cloudflare) or cloud compute (Amazon/AWS) tend to bring down half the internet.

Data and archives that were only recently considered a permanent part of the Internet are being cleansed and erased from the public domain.

#Nostr is a needed reset to salvage what was good and empowering about the Internet.

I worry about Nostr services being built on public cloud infra, though. I know various clients use things like Cloudflare. Public clouds in the past have decided to cut off companies all together and basically shut them down.

There needs to be a similar push to decentralize internet infrastructure.

No different than #GrapheneOS's dependence on Google hardware, or all of our dependence on closed source chips.

Practically speaking, the software must be freed and wealthy before true open and decentralized hardware and infrared can be afforded.

Has to happen this century. AI will help.

I've been trying to think about ways to help this along. But the costs are pretty tremendous. Will be interesting to see it unfold.

I would love to see someone migrate the entire content libraries of sites like Project Gutenberg, Flickr Commons, Internet Archive, Smithsonian, etc. to Nostr.
