I don’t understand why some people who identify themselves as republicans call every little thing that makes them uncomfortable “woke” because the term’s historical roots come from the (famously Republican btw) “wide awakes” who supported Abraham Lincoln and would rally for slavery abolition. Later on it entered as a more general term for being aware of human rights most commonly used in African American Vernacular English. Like? Does it come from a place of ignorance? Self-hatred?
