Depends what you mean by needed, but I’m comfortable saying it’s not needed for anyone to live and thrive at this point in time. I speculate it will be primarily entertainment, but there is room for thinking it could make some things more convenient in a future state, and spur new online behaviors we don’t understand or appreciate now— similar to how the current metaverse (zoom, socials, amazon) is embedded into but not 100% needed for modern life.
