I'm investing some time today into learning myself.

My goals are to eventually be in full control of all of digital presence. That includes running a node and relay for myself in the future. I think today I'm going to invest in me and stay gathering the parts for a seed signer...

I've been hearing about splicing with Phoenix, and I have Mutiny but haven't played around much with it... Can someone explain to me the pros and cons of using either? Especially in conjunction or with a workflow that include being able to zap and storing the rest safely/securely?

Currently I use Zeus in conjunction with ln.tips which works really well. But trying to learn and upgrade myself. Excited for Zeus nodes and watch only accounts 🤷🏽

I haven't tried Mutiny Wallet yet. I do use Phoenix, but not for zapping, mostly just for collecting DCA funds. I am still using the custodial Alby + Zeus combo for zapping, similar to what you have. Just looking around I think there will be a lot more solutions soon, I'm looking forward to Green from nostr:npub1jg552aulj07skd6e7y2hu0vl5g8nl5jvfw8jhn6jpjk0vjd0waksvl6n8n adding lightning support, that will finally push me over the edge to buy a Jade 😂

Mutiny is better for zaps 💯 It supports NWC https://github.com/getAlby/nostr-wallet-connect It is also beta, so beware dragons 🐉 Follow nostr:npub1t0nyg64g5vwprva52wlcmt7fkdr07v5dr7s35raq9g0xgc0k4xcsedjgqv to stay up to date!

Phoenix is not good for zaps, no NWC. As a self custody wallet for any other use, I think it is great! I use it to collect DCA payments, and have processed a lot of other transactions, seems quite reliable.

Blockstream jade will be hardware wallet and zap? 🤔🤔🤔

I was watching the bitcoinsessions video he did on it recently and it seemed weird to me that it was hardware but also an app🤷🏽

Like isbt the point of a cold wallet so it isn't connected to the internet in any way?

It's easier if you think of it as a "signing device" and not a wallet. The app sends the transaction to the device, the device signs it with your private key, and then sends the signed transaction back to the app. Your key stays on the device. The app creates and then broadcasts the transaction to the Bitcoin network. Your "coins" are on the blockchain, your private key proving ownership.

#Zeus is coming up with #Olympus

Not a fan of Mutiny as my layers of phone protection suggested I do not download it when I tried

Phoenix is cool but standard fees for transferring is a bit 👀

Have you tried Trust or other self custodials??

Nope I'm new to all of this

I see

Why did you choose Phoenix then? Just askin

Because I started with 0 here on nostr. I learned everything I know here from you guys. I started on alby. Then was told about WoS and that I loved because I could see my balance on my phone. During zapathons that thing went down so I went to ln.tips and I started learning about cold storage and KYC and safer ways of doing things. So really I'm just trying to catch up with all the talk everyone has all the time🤷🏽

I downloaded phoenix a while back. Muun. A few things. I've tried to learn them one by one. See what I like and don't, pros cons.

But also you guys are so smart. 🤷🏽 I feel like maybe I'm making it harder on myself but not just asking if there's a solution that kind of has best if all worlds or at least for me🤷🏽

Oh, you're defo on like donkey kong!

One thing though, it's not just the wallets but first things first, have you got any protection installed on your phones? Like anti virus, backdoor attack prevention, vpn, etc?

I'd say you start from that, then think wallets, as no matter how nice your wallets are but if your phone is exposed to backdoors and all kinds of virus, then you'll wake up one day with an empty wallet and a crying face

What kind of things do you recommend?

I have a anti-malware and a VPN through proton

Perfect!

Using proton mail too?

So you don't have to provide any personal email to 3rd parties?

Yes proton ftw!

I try not to give that email out though. I try and make up random emails as much as I can.

Yup, random emails are avail for paid subs but sometimes I forget which address I've given out to a friend lol

Ah! Yeah! No I think I'm using my proton for friends/actual business. Film production stuff🤷🏽

But I hadn't thought of it because I don't email friends often 🤣🤣🤣

Oh, so you're on film, I thought you loved music, as you've always posted nusic stuff

I can see the confusion🤣

I use music to get into the mood to write stuff🤷🏽

I want to make long form narrative surreal films a la Alejandro Jodorowski or David Lynch🤷🏽

At the moment I get work mostly doing music videos, or doing other positions for other people's projects. I also do photography, I sell art for 2 different artists, and I bartend on weekends.

Busy bee?????? 😂😂😂

Where did you put your personal life in that?

I mean, you, just you?

Like introspection, knowing yourself, criticizing yourself, patting your own shoulders, looking into your body's needs for upkeep, and your mind's needs to keep your sanity? Do you even have time alone by yourself, consumed in introspection?

SWIM literally went to the beach and did acid last Monday according to the nostr diary with pictures 🤷🏽

Have you downloaded Trust or Mycelium yet? Both are good, but I think Mycelium would be best for you, although it might be confusing for anyone on btc startup, but it has functions you'll be surprised the others don't have, like a widget that you can add on your website, if you have a business, anonymous issuance of receipts for customers, cold storage option, etc

If you're using Proton, you dewd are all set! 😊 you've stepped up the first ladder! Now make sure your contacts are not synced with any app, or just sync the ones you intend to inclde for multi signature scenarios like multi-sig wallets or if you're mining Pi

Mining pi I have no idea what mean do that

Phoenix is ok, so is Muun, but I sometimes have trust issues. I still have both, because I put a bit of assets on all my wallets, but since I have #Btc, #Eth and #Maker (Mkr.e) so I use Trust and Mycelium wallets mostly, others are just for e-commerce like there's one for goods and services only, one for exchange only, one for vendos, etc.

I love Mycelium because it uses in-app Tor, has both #btc and #eth, self-custody with cold storage connectivity, colorful UI lol, media flow, swap, etc. Trust has swap too, self-custodial, price alerts, send/receive NFT's etc

Phoenix is changing very soon for the best. they are introducing Splicing

it will reduce the fee drastically only one channel (UTXO) that will grow as you add more money

I have posted there blog about this look up my notes you will find it.

I will try to get an ETA for the new release.

Please explain splicing to me I've heard about this

Systematic slim fast

You are DEA scum.

Seed signer is a great start!

Feel free to DM if you need help with anything

I think from a basic perspective you ought to separate your wallets and products by use case. That will then dictate the best stack of products you shld use.

I like the combo of sparrow and jade for cold storage. Sparrow has amazing functionality and is easy to use while still having advanced features. Downside is this is desktop only (but you don't want cold storage on your phone anyways)

I like to keep a muun wallet for medium size purchases as well as using it as a general deposit wallet. This is usually where my fold, fountain, or whatever other small sat balances tend to go first. Stack a bunch of sats over time then send a single onchain to cold storage or lightning for a purchase. It's fast and combines my lightning and onchain balances in one. Its like a stacking hub where I can batch a bunch of small lightning transactions into one big utxo to send to cold storage. Due to its use of submarine swaps, the UI combines your balance and just shows a single amount. Downside is lightning fees (sending) can be a little higher here since submarine swaps still require an onchain transaction. But it's on mobile so I have it with me always and it's layer agnostic

For zaps, I just use wos. It's simple, easy, and I'm fine if I lose that balance. I simply top it up whenever it runs low and I'm off to the races. No fuss.

I hadn't thought of separating due to how I'll use it. That's really helpful thank you! Also the idea of not needing cold storage on my phone.

I was hoping to have the watch only to say least be able to check it. But that line of thinking tracks!

You can connect your Nostr client to Mutiny wallet with Wallet Connect feature for 1 tap zaps. Its amazing ⚡

I'm kind of a fan of clicking through Zeus.

It helps me know I'm not double spending and when I back out of it it shows me how much I have so I know what to spend like🤷🏽

Zeus is great and I think they will come with a major upgrade in next version. Mutiny also make you click trough to approve the transactions. While its a nice feature, would like to see a approve all button 🤙

Oh really??

I did 1click zaps with alby on amethyst and it was too fast too easy. I was like nah fam I ain't vin diesel.

😅
