On this day - February 23rd 1836 - a group of Texian (and Tennessee) heroes settled in for what would become the siege of the Alamo. Demanding surrender, William B. Travis responded to Santa Anna with a cannon shot. Their demonstration of courage that ended March 6th has become core to the identity of every Texan that followed.
