I need help with podcast stuff, as a consumer...

I have an ipod.

I plug it in.

Thankfully linux recognizes it and i can open with Rhythmbox to see whats on it.

I want to get all episodes of a podcast. I find the RSS feed and Add to the Podcast view in Rhythmbox, click subscribe, and close that view, return to Browse. I can select items and add to local play queue.

What I cant figure out is how to put them on the ipod. Anyone know what im missing?

And no, using a Mac, or Windows or iTunes is not a solution here. I remember trying to use iTunes years ago and it was a confusing hellscape and required logins and apple ids.

Anyone know how to make an ipod like attached file storage so i can drag and drop a file? Do they even make mp3 players that can do that anymore?

Does it detect it as a Mass media device or w/e?

linux does but the folders and naming conventions seem a special structure

🤨

Sounds about right. Might need to decode the structure to know where the pods should go.

digging into it further i think i found how to get a podcast episode on the ipod but it wants to clear existing content, and there seems no direct way to get stuff off

Get stuff off? Like remove content?

like copy from the ipod back to computer

What's the use case? I would think that's one direction.

i put stuff on like 5 years ago and switched machines

Hrm. Good point. Can you just dd the whole thing over to a backup somewhere?
