If you’re tracing a pattern with seam allowance, you can even (gasp!) use a felt tipped pen, and carefully cut away the pen line if you’re worried about bleed through.

If you’re marking notches, I usually make a tiny, tiny snip - the fabric will curl a bit and you can find it again. Or I’ve even used gaffer tape!
