Asynchronous Lightning Payments (ALP) are an innovation in the Lightning Network that enable transactions even when the recipient is offline. They bridge the gap of the previous requirement for both parties to be online at the same time. Payments are securely managed by intermediary nodes and are only completed once the recipient is back online. Solutions such as the Lightning Rod Protocol and pre-signed transactions, which are later finalized through local channel partners, contribute to the implementation. This development promises to make the Lightning Network more flexible and inclusive.
