I am a very cynical person and it is the number one thing I would like to change about myself. I have felt bad countless times after criticizing something and later learning the person I was with really enjoyed that thing.

maybe you are using the wrong word...

most of the people are seekers after social capital and brownie points(right on their fucking nose) leading to false senses of belonging and fleeting "acceptable" "purpose".

moderns have blemished the Cynics just so they can be yuppie materialist hypocrites whilst LARPing as "philosophers" and freedom-seekers...

Diogenes laughed at and mocked them 3000 years ago because they deserved it then as they deserve it now...

Cynic comes from the same root as their word for "dog" and was meant as a positive, as dogs are perceived as honest and lacking in all pretence.

Also, lots of these faggots in the nostr silo fancy themselves Stoics, while frowning on Cynicism, which just means they are judgemental hypocrite cunts seeking social capital rather than Truth, being that Cynicism laid the foundations for what became Stoicism...

And oh yeah, never forget the HUMOR element, which all of these actors have completely lost... and they REALLY dont like it when they see you laughing at them and their big prisoner life of commitment and obligations they wave around like its the pinnacle of liberty.

Cynics are awesome dude.

I agree with you, to be cynical is to look at the world honestly. I would feel like a fraud if I went around blindly accepting everything fed to me. But me talking shit about some movie my girlfriend likes just makes her feel bad for no real reason.

I have been critical of media my whole life, starting probably somewhere in high school. I don't see that ever changing, it's hard to go back. Usually through some humor and sarcasm, I have really tried to challenge friends and family on what good tv, movies, music, and books are. Or other topics on religion, politics, etc. I don't think I've ever gotten anywhere with anyone except them being annoyed with me.

The people I've been able to find that are similarly critical of the world around them are extremely few and far between. I would likely be alone if I filtered out those who are not critical.

Would I be doing them a disservice to keep these thoughts to myself? Am I accomplishing anything? I do pick on the women I date, and they ~usually~ like it 😂
