I want to log in to some niche service just created. The service doesn't want to be sybil attacked. Then it will block me if I'm not friends of friends with the owner? Or what?

You glanced over the PoW part. And yes, sats are PoW too.

I didn't glance, I considered it, still it didn't fix the problem to me, but it's too hard for me to spell all the scenarions that I have considered it not working.

That's why I'm asking for a more concrete example.

Would you agree that it would work in many (most?) scenarios? I'm an optimist.

I have many concrete examples btw.

I agree this is a stupid time to be alive.

Just like all other times probably.

The ability for implementations like stacker news , wherein each post must be zapped, and the ability to have paid curated relays should things become spammy is what attracted me to nostr. I stayed for the high signal.

all other times had challenges/how one accepts them is on one

my time is not stupid

Well, I agree that charging for a service is a pretty good way to keep freeloading leechers out, but I don't agree using WoT would work for when someone wants to offer a thing for free but still don't want to get sybil-attacked or abused. WoT would solve it, but it's probably too restrictive for most cases in which people resort to the email/phone combination today -- I do think most of these cases are stupid.
