I'm expecting to hear any day now that McMurdo Station scientists have the largest carbon footprint of any community on Earth, and this fact was discovered only now.

Mac Town is an airbase LARPing as a research station, because treaties. Or so I have been told, with due allowance for rhetorical exaggeration.

Apparently the "research station" bit is more real than I thought. They're certainly not under military "discipline". Well done those men!

...and women... When I look at the pictures... Have to write this, my wife's around... 😇

And women! Images haven't loaded yet (Tor over mobile...)

Images loaded a bit quicker. Tor over wifi...

Updated myself about this station. This thing is huge...

I'd love to visit Antarctica, but the research bases are as micromanaged as military life, and tourism ridiculously overpriced and stage-managed.

I once met a guy who had visited "privately" as part of a yacht crew, apparently its more common than the authorities let on, but I hate small boats on big seas too :(

Once I stood at the most southern point of New Zealand and I was thinking, just a little bit more... 😃

You're absolutely right. Those managed tours are way out of reach for me and little boats are also not my thing.
