Personally I think the alkaloid thing is rather overblown especially if your using the leaf. But fair enough. Plantain and calendula are less extreme vulnerary plants without alkaloids that might be useful.
Cider vinegar has yeast, lactic acid bacteria, acetobacter etc in it. Its more of a probiotic, may not fix the issue but animals always seem to come out healthier with it. I don't have any ducks at the moment but the gerbils here went from being rather unkempt and limp to rather vibrant colourful and healthy looking after adding it to their water. The lacto bacillus help make b12 so if's a nerve issue it might help in a round about way too.
