Linux is easy to start with. You can even dual boot, so you have your old OS to fall back on while you learn.

I have a Linux laptop. It hasn't been turned on in over a year. It got borked beyond repair and I had had enough of it. Fresh install of Ubuntu (was using Pop prior), but I just can't vibe with it

Ubuntu isn't that great. For a beginner Linux Mint is a better option IMHO. Mahdood is running it I believe.

Depending on how good the hardware is Fedora is pretty nice too. I run it on my gaming rig.

I tried this with my desktop but I felt that a clean start would have been less taxing mentally.
