This happens to me when I lose who I am following.
Not to say there aren’t slow times vs rush hours too
Yes this is a good point - notes are delivered in real time. So if you are checking nostr when most people you're following are asleep, your feed will be slow. Nostr doesn't go back and pick old notes it thinks you'll like and deliver them when you log in. There's no algo or bot for something like this so discovery is on you. Click on user profiles you like and scroll their older notes to see what you missed.
Since there are no algos here to feed you content, your feed is made up of notes from those you follow.
Most people coming from legacy social media have a tendency not to follow many people because algos take into account your ratio. No one gives a fuck about your "influencer ratio" here. The more you follow, the better your feed.
The advice I tend to give is to follow anyone who interacts with you and when in doubt, just follow them. If they get annoying in your feed, just unfollow or mute them later on.

Nostr activity seems to always comes in waves. Plus, we're a hive mind. If one person says something intriguing, many others jump in on it and talk about it too 😂
Nothing is broken. IMO, Nostr engagement has been slowing down for a long while. I noticed a while ago when my engagement seemed less than it used to be. This doesn't change my mission though.
Lots of reasons IMO for less engagement.
New user retention has always been bad.
People don't like Bitcoin talk.
Bitcoin bull market, people return to Twitter.
BlueSky's growing successes.
People don't care about freedom or speech and censorship as much as they care about their ego.
Yikes thats scary. If we dont have freedom of speech nothing else is as important. Well ill keep plugging away. We need each other we need diversity and we need community. A smaller stronger community with the same principles is always more valuable than the masses anyway. I have Dominatrix school today. So I expect that small group to flood in and add even more strong female voices to the mix. 🩷
