I suppose I'm being vein about it...I never thought of the benefit...only that it looks like they are overtaking my plants. I might be able to take a photo in the morning...

I would leave them to it. I’m always pleased when I see a spider on my plants, doing a useful job eating the bugs.
I can’t imagine their webs cause a significant reduction in the light the plant gets, unless they’re getting clogged up with dust or something.
