I am a very self-interested person, in the following sense; I try to figure out what is best for me to do.

"best for me" here does not mean that I expect my actions to bring me wealth, pleasure, power or comfort, or something of that sort. It rather means that I take a much greater interest in the success of my own actions than those of others, for the simple reason that my own actions are the only ones I can directly control.
