Not sure statism always make an authoritarian out of someone, but certainly strokes that impulse. The larger problem is that it deifies the state and usurps individual, famelial, and ecclesiastical governance.
This is one of the many reasons I oppose public schools. Statist manufacturing facilities.
It's always a level of degree. The USA is much less authoritarian than North Korea to use an extreme example. But if the state intrudes on an individual when they are not an aggressor, and they continue expanding that power, it only leads one way.
Agreed 1000% on the education system. University is even worse.
