NIP-05 ID SaaS providers are centralizing this, you are absolutely right. However, not everyone has the ability to do their own NIP-05, nor does everyone have the time to do their own NIP-05. I always recommend to people that if they do have either of those two that they should look into doing it themselves. Are we really going to have millions of people buy domain names just for this? Doubtful. For those that don't meet that criteria, there's a dozen or so providers offering a variety of services along with NIP-05 ID. Find one that fits you. Eventually these ID and service providers will be reputation based and people will choose one based on that criteria. 🤙
Great breakdown. I’m reasonably techie but I was way out of my lane trying to set up CNAME and ALIAS files. I think you’re completely correct here, the point is though that just like relays you can switch at any time and your identity won’t be effected.
