In a similar vein, how do whales communicate over thousands of miles? Do those low frequency sound waves bend around the globe?

I'm sure that, as a broadcast engineer and writer, I am not the best one to answer questions about whale communications -- but I have heard that there is an ocean layer called the Deep ocean Channel or something like that, which acts as a waveguide for very low frequency sounds.
