It is Bitcoin’s game theory that is forcing their hand. Of course they want to be dystopian psychopaths with the technology because that’s what they are, but they wouldn’t be putting in so much effort and urgency if there weren’t a competitor that they can’t usurp.

That’s why they always say “crypto” - in business you never refer to your opposition directly. But if you read their docs they’re much more concerned about that than Gold suddenly having a resurgence as sound money because they know they can control the flows of that.
