Blah. Both of my dumpster find computers are DOA. Now I gotta try to find another cheap/free PC so I can run a Linux server for a bunch of stuff I need to learn to run.

I don't know how beefy your current computer is, but otherwise VMs could be an option. Or if you are already running Linux, then containers could be another option?
