That and the interactions that happen when you have a group together that will never occur online.

Last time I had a group LAN game was 10ish years ago. Managed to get a group to go in on copies of Artemis: Spaceship bridge Simulator.

Even the Halo 2 parties in high school had more going for them than all the hours I've managed to play with friends online since. (my guts tremble even now at the though of Vault soda)

Between Smash 1, Melee, Perfect Dark, Guitar Hero, Halo 3, and L4D, I had some good times over the years and nothing like that since. Part of it too is growing up, to be fair, because you don't have nearly as much free time and you're not on the same schedule as other people so it makes it a lot tougher to pick a meet up time and have the energy for it. I live with my best friend and I don't even want to play local co-op with him anymore because I'm just so fucking burned out from work and society that I would prefer to play alone.

It's crazy how hard music games died out. I used to play the hell out of guitar hero, rock band, and even fucking DJ Hero. Then all of a sudden it just stopped. The japanese never gave it up though, they have loads of awesome music games.
