We bought our kiddo a hamster for his 6th. It's 1 month old cottonball.

I fully realize it's my hamster after next week or two and secretly took care of it several days prior the birthday, so it won't be stressed.

Hamster likes me the most. It's cute as fuck and holds onto my hand with the tiniest paws, I CAN'T EVEN!

I'd buy a rat, but they need to have a friend or a really good care. Hamsters are solitary territorial bastards - but in the end they need just the same space or they'll go crazy. Also hamsters don't know how to climb I've read..

..just buy a second dog.
