Briar is frankly useless.

It won't talk to nearby phones unless they explicitly pair with you, the other features don't give any difference compared to using nostr over Wi-Fi and internet.

Geogram just talks to anyone in the Bluetooth distance without manual pairing. Then it uses internet like a normal messenger or radio walkie talkies when that is what you have (no internet, long distance off-grid).

Would say it is the only messenger that can directly talk to satellites (for free).

Furthermore, it isn't just a messenger. It's the base tool for off-grid communities where they can host websites, receive emails, host pictures, share files and keep a blog. It would be better described as an off-grid radio server.

When the internet stops being available, this tool makes sure the smartphone in your pocket continues to be useful and be used.

Thanks for the explanation. Are you open to submitting it to #Fdroid?

That is a good suggestion. All code being written is open source and without ads: https://github.com/orgs/geograms/repositories

Therefore adding to Fdroid is fully possible and compatible.

Try Keet, while it doesn't have local meshing currently it is quite capable and plans to have it

Keet has been around for quite a while, if they haven't added real P2P local meshing, the odds are that they never will.

Don't get me wrong, it is a nice project and I've used it in the past. The thing is that I'm disenchanted with any communication platforms that can only exist inside the internet.

NOSTR is the big exception, it doesn't really care what is underneath. Can as comfortably work with the internet underneath or using radio waves. Heck, can even use printed paper if we are in the mood.

When the electrical grid goes down, long distance internet disappears and that is the reason why I will not invest any more of my personal time on solutions centralized around the internet.

Local meshing is in development it's just not a priority. Keet has the same replicatable fudementals as nostr ie it is transmission agnostic
