That's also a book. People underestimate the influence of the beaver on the water sheds of both Europe and North America.
Most of the water issues the US has currently are due to the massive decline in beaver population (from an estimated 2-400 million to ~9)

I was recently reading about someone whose creek had dried up. They brought beavers back and the creek started flowing again.
Yup! I've been learning a LOT about water management lately from the perspective of permaculture, and it's utterly fascinating.
