The interesting thing for me is I only choose a side when I can see the other side is correct and valid and provides strong logical arguments.

Only at that point, where I accept the opposing argument, but still prefer my choice, do I settle on my choice.

We must be able to talk intelligently about the opposite side so that we can describe our own thoughts.

Best way to go about it. That really shows emotional intelligence, paired with logic and humility - not just sticking to your opinion out of stubbornness, but because you’ve actually thought it through and considered other views. Being open to changing or evolving our ideas is something people talk about a lot, but we see less and less of it every day unfortunately.
