it's just that "bicycles in the netherlands" should never be used as a run-of-the-mill example to which one should aspire.

the NL famously is a flat country. of course biking is great there! most of us, though, have the misfortune to live in hilly areas. that NL example doesn't apply as well to us as one may think.

it's as good as asking us to stick our finger into a wall.

(bicycles still rule, though.)

(Not for me—I'm pushing 60 and my sense of balance is gone and I have no peripheral vision on the side cars overtake on. So all cycling is off the menu for me. But if I didn't have those disabilities I'd totally be on an e-bike.)
