How do we explain the difference between #Nostr and other social platforms in terms the general public would understand and grasp while not mentioning bitcoin?

A haiku might work?

I like using the email anology. You can use any client, just like you can use any email provider. Instead of sending a message to a predetermined recipient(s), your notes are published to a global feed based off of your relays.

not censored. that's all.

Most follow the general rules of FB TW etc so they don't feel any censorship happening.

the rules are the censorship, not that anyone reads them. But I've never been a big fan of social networks, Twitter was the only exception.

No body is going to shadow ban or restriction or ban you

No one is in charge. You find and follow your friends. You mute the idiots, ringtwingnuts and conspiraloons.

Later, you'll be able to join Relays specifically related to your interests and people.

Gentle Reminder : Nostr is Layer 1. Zaps are Layer 2. They DISCOVER the zaps :-)

I am struggling to explain what I do not fully grasp yet. The twitter like experience is the Trojan horse. Nostr looks almost inoffensive, but under the surface brews the creative soup that will create a new web. A totally new way of funding and broadcasting all kind of content.

What we’re experiencing now is the tip of the iceberg.
