Yeah I’m definitely not trying to put myself at unnecessary risk of death or prison. The area I live in is not as good as it once was. My wife is feeling unsafe in some spots. I asked her if she would feel more safe with a gun and she said as long as she was trained and comfortable.

Definitely always try to leave a situation first.

I’ve fired guns when I was younger but that was a while ago ~20 years. We would definitely sign up for a handgun training class and spend some time at a range getting comfortable.

Depending on where you live, there are plenty of great firearms instructors out there. Training and practice are the key.

As far as firearms choices go, that will really just depend on what you find that you like. What works well for one person may not meet the needs of another. That being said, there's a very wide range of quality firearms out there.
