The richest 20% have incomes 4.5 times higher than the poorest 20%, a historic gap. "You'd have to go back to the early 1970s to see slightly greater inequality," says Insee.

The standard of living of the richest 10% rose by 2.1% in constant €, while that of the bottom 30% fell. This situation is even more marked for the poorest 10% (- 0.9% in constant €).
