Owning any is way better than none.

But I think is is fair to say one either needs a longer time frame, like 20 to 50 years or put in quite some money right now and a shorter time frame, to achieve some real value (normal retirement as sample).

Compared to some 10 or 15 years ago where some $ 100's or 1000's would achieve the same in only 10 to 15 years.
