I guess what I’m most curious/confused on is
When I read about it originally I was wondering if I could use it to send Fiat payments for P2P bitcoin purchases
Ummm... I think it needs to be converted to eCash first ?
for the ELI5 explanation I would point you to several talks and interviews calle did on the youtubes and other streaming.
Your usecase is unclear to me, but my gut says no. It is not an on/off ramp fiat to sats.
No ecash mint accepts fiat payments directly (for now?), maybe look at broadwalk cash that offers a wallet and mint denomimated in fiat.
