Good plan, I’ve been buying phones from swappa or eBay for years. The iPad was a gift and it’s pretty but struggles with home server stuff. Nextcloud integration blows too.

Yeah the background data is key for Element and Nextcloud. I just started buying refurbished computers last year and love it! Can’t wait to do phones
