An E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers has been reported, affecting 75 people mainly in the western United States. The number of hospitalizations has risen to 22, with one death and two cases of a serious condition that damages blood vessels in the kidneys. An investigation is underway to determine the source of contamination, which may be linked to slivered onions or beef patties. In response, Taylor Farms has issued a voluntary recall of its yellow onions, and McDonald's has temporarily removed Quarter Pounders from menus.
