🇪🇺 📰 The EU plans to have a back door into all E2EE apps by 2030 is no joke, they have been pushing for it for years now, the latest document is quite clear, dated May 2024.
Here the link to the "GOING DARK" initiative with a 42 points plan:
https://cdn.netzpolitik.org/wp-upload/2024/06/2024-05-22-Recommendation-HLG-Going-Dark-c.pdf
#### Summary of the document for the ones with little time to read:
The document discusses challenges faced by law enforcement in accessing data for criminal investigations in the digital age, particularly regarding encryption and data retention. It outlines 42 recommendations clustered in three areas:
- Capacity building measures
- Cooperation with industry and standardization
- Legislative measures
***Key issues addressed include:***
- Lack of cross-border cooperation on digital forensic tools
- Difficulties with accessing and decrypting data from user devices
- Challenges with data retention and access to data in provider systems
- Need for cooperation with industry and standardization efforts
- Proposals for legislative changes to improve lawful access to data
***As usual the EU politicians are clueless:***
The document recognizes the challenges posed by VPNs and E2EE messenger apps to law enforcement while emphasizing the importance of balancing these challenges with fundamental rights, data protection, and security considerations.
***Now laugh a bit:***
The recommendations focus on cooperation, standardization, and legislative measures to address these issues effectively.
So... They will end up banning apps with no back door and making it illegal for users to use apps with no back doors. This will not end well. It is moronic, black hats are for sure salivating about it.
