They saw that everyone will comply to whatever they're told and since then a handful of unelected lobbyists, in the pockets of the industrial complex, decides over the faith of almost half a billion people as they deem fit.

The absurd part is that the majority still doesn't understand this or they'd be on the streets rioting.
