To have a decentralized protocol and then to ask a corporation to centralize its onboarding seems to be going backwards.

This is an inconvenience, but inconvenience doesn’t dissuade the sort of people that are drawn to protocols over platforms.

It’s a marketing channel that happens to have the most users out of any for iOS.

Gotta be where people are.

I get that.

But if you have to ask one of the biggest monopolies in the world to give you permission…to push back against the biggest monopolies in the world, then you haven’t yet pushed back in the right way

An outcast prince will go and raise a large following to attempt a rebellion and get crushed in the process.

A smart outcast prince will lead the enemy’s army and earn the respect of all soldiers and turn them against the kingdom ruler and win.

This has been claimed and attempted countless times, only for the outcast prince to sellout at the most crucial time.

iOS is a ramp to 1.3 billion people.

Shouldn’t sniff at that.

nostr should have a substantial presence on iOS app store with many implementations of the protocol.

It’s up to Damus how they spend their development time. But I hope they keep a presence on iOS rather than get rugged by Apple.

Progressive Web Apps allow more developer freedom than native iOS apps, but compromise on some of the functionality of a native app.

It’s a difficult choice and not fun being blindsided so abruptly.

Don't need to fall back on PWA when you can sideload the app without jailbreak

Very developer centric thinking. Normal people will not jump hoops to do that.

Normal people found ways to use shitty electrum wallet to hold a "eCash" currency though 😏

It's easy enough if you follow a guide, but of course pales in comparison to a one-click install from an app store

Those are not normal people 😂

Yeah, I would crudely estimate that the addressable markets are as follows…

iOS…….1,300 million

PWA……….80 million

Jailbreak…..8 million

Other views welcome.

I keep saying the same thing, ecosystems need ramps!

Damus on iOS is an amazing beachhead for nostr. I like using Damus. Damus is the biggest property on the protocol.

I like PWA’s because they’re more OS agnostic, they’re just clunky to access from iOS. But iOS supports service workers now.

nah gotta make the people come to you. if we can't do that, it's gane iver.
