Like, is there a freedom tech that masked its non-permissionlessness so well that it wasn't obvious until much later?

Only thing I can think of with me is Simplex, I used it for years but then discovered it's not censorship-resistant. Then again, not sure if they ever promoted it like that, I just knew it was the most private option.

i can run a simplex server for text and images from my start9, and only use that server to talk to other people. So, I'd still use it.

Yeah I'm still using it as well, but keychat caught my attention. Still trying to figure out if the trade-offs are worth switching for.

In terms of censorship I mean that I'm unable to make rooms with certain people and this seems by design. Even if it's not intentional, it could be used intentionally at some point.
