a centralized media service is free to use zap receipts, but ventures further and further away from the purpose of nostr. As the form and size gets larger and longer we should be empowering artists to take more and more self custody of the distribution.
zap.stream ideas brainstorm
- A back-end with recorded videos and one click set recording as a stream (or an option to automatically leave it running after the stream is over
- For “Planned” streams a button to “get notified” that sets a reminder which auto-dos you when the streamer is live, and perhaps one optional earlier reminder.
- Categories page with categories for streams
- For ended streams, visually indicate if there’s a recording available
- For restarted streams, show if the comments are from another date . For example, all new comments today would be delineated with “Today —“
- Clean up buttons (not sure if I like the gradient 😔)
- Share button
- Global stream notification setting to always get DMed when the streamer you “follow” is live

Discussion
I don’t see it. The streams are their own kind are they not? They can still reach the broader nostr ecosystem? Amethyst is showing the same streams from zap.stream and any client can replicate the platform if they choose to.
The input is not centralized either. You have the option of where you wish to host your stream, even your own server.
“ back-end with recorded videos and one click set recording as a stream”
one can do this locally and then everything you just said
How? How do I add my streamed recording without Cloudflare?
If you know, do share
it’s just a video. A handful of kinds exist but most clients play .mp4 links that way, could link it to the stream kind of you want.
“You have the option of where you wish to host your (video), even your own server.”
As posed to
“A back-end with recorded videos and one click set recording as a stream”
I know how to record in obs, I don’t know how to link it to a stream without Cloudflare.
A client can and will develop whatever it wants to at the end of the day.
just update the post with a tag to the video 💁♀️ idk what cloudflare has to do with it once you aren’t live streaming.
mainly what I’m getting at is selling
“You have the option of where you wish to host your stream, even your own server.”
then centralizing the archived video feels like an intentional rug pull, when you can repurpose that statement/philosophy/sales pitch with the word video.
there is literally already a place to put a recording tag in the nip
I don’t see the point of this conversation if as a user of the platform I have no way to actually stream the recording. Having it in the nip is one thing but we don’t have the UI even…
What’s the point of recording if you don’t make it visible? We have native streaming may as well have native streaming of recordings.
I rest my arguments here without further replies.
