Why are these banned for commercial use?

If it causes issues on your commercial farm then don’t grow them.

That's a fine reason for a farmer to avoid them, but not a good reason for it to be banned.

The article reports the ‘outlawed potato’ is suitable for small farming, but was decertified for commercial production by the Canadian Government in 1976- hinting that the decertification was for corporate commercial interests.

If they can outlaw a potato for corporate interests, it should be no surprise what else might be proscribed for the sake of corporate interests.
