Worst?! Depends for what, it is inefficient af, but it is the only one we know that allows us to just trust in Bitcoin as together with it's other properties a UTXO written in it is "immutable"
Without the Blockchain Bitcoin wouldn't function but outside of it it is useless
Btw I also have zero background in information technology, and it MIGHT show in how I write about it😅
