Guys the TikTok ban is a lesson for Nostr. We missed a huge opportunity. We need to develop faster, we need to reach out to companies so they integrate Nostr, we need to fund advertising, there is a lot we could be doing that we aren’t.

We should have had a TikTok clone by last summer. I will do what I can, I am learning to code, but I am far behind, so I won’t be able to do much any time soon. We missed a huge opportunity, we could have gained hundreds of thousands, if not millions of users if we had an app ready for that niche.

I saw this but it’s not quite the same. First, it obviously still looks like a microblogging client. Second, it’s missing the algorithm.

TikTok’s algorithm was definitely the best one. It could learn your interests after like 10 likes, and it wouldn’t just show you rage bait and thirst traps to maximize attention like X and Instagram.

The truth is, I’ve never used it, so I imagine you know more about this 🫂

Yeah I didn’t really use it until last year but I used it a lot once I started. I thought it was just a place for young women to post thirst traps, but when I got on there I was able to very quickly guide the algorithm to show me Christian and libertarian content. Met a lot of great Christian people on there

🙌🏽

We ain't ready. Let's catch em in 3 years.

Yeah the nips still need a little more work, and a few systems need to be built. We are close though

Close enough for first principle thinkers to go 100% in.

Talked to a normie about Tik Tok today.....bless their hearts.

Totally agree. Need to iron out a lot of kinks before major adoption

I disagree. It’s an information problem, not a UX problem. Info travels unfairly, and most TikTok users that will have been banned, simply have no idea Nostr even exists

Admittedly it’s a chicken and egg problem in a sense

if you could reach 50mil people with a single post on Nostr, then the reach would entice people, but that doesn’t happen overnight

With that reach UX would improve

But Nostr is still figuring out what it is. How it works. Why it works. It works, sure, but aside from the pure hustle from some avid early adopters, there’s been next to no investment into it vs legacy

Hopefully this changes!

Ridiculous that a US judge can have so much influence on how people use the internet… great marketing for Nostr

It wasn’t just the Court, 80% of the legislative branch supported the ban, and Biden signed it into law. The whole government worked together to ban the app that realistically had supermajority support among the public.

I definitely think Nostr needs a little more time, the timing just wasn’t ideal for Nostr to fill the hole that TikTok left. Nostr clearly isn’t going away, it will just keep growing until it’s big enough for normies

With TikTok especially, the real limiter Nostr-side is the lack of algorithm. It is only as popular as it is because it has the most advanced social media algorithm in existence. It is devilish in its ability to addict users to scrolling; so effective at it that withdrawal starts tweaking heavy users out in minutes. Best avoided.

Well at least their algorithm isn’t necessarily bad for you. I was mostly getting positive Christian content. On X and Instagram I only get rage bait and thirst traps

Be the change you want to see 🤝

Working on it 🫡

The second a company sees Nostr's roots in Bitcoin and the excessive BTC jizz, it'll drop further conversations.

Bitcoin isn't "cool", in fact outside of being an object for and of speculation, most people would rather keep a huge distance to it. xD The "crypto stigma" is very real.
